Westmead Hospital opened in 1978, with 975 beds, as a Specialised Tertiary Referral Hospital and Level 1 Trauma Centre for Greater Western Sydney.

The Hospital consist of:

  • Diagnostic and Treatment areas
  • Administrative and Education facilities
  • The Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research

Westmead Trauma Centre is one of Australia’s largest and busiest Trauma Centres with over 3200 admission per year.  Westmead is the busiest Major Trauma Centre in the Sydney Metropolitan Region and the third busiest in Australia.  It has a well-established Trauma Registry with over 60,000 patients and a well organised system of trauma care.
